Ocean Safety Responds to Multiple Rescues

Honolulu Ocean Safety, along with a private canoe club and private water safety company responded to a swimmer who suffered a cardiac arrest this morning while competing in an organized swim race. Just after 9:30am, lifeguards rescued the man from the waters off Waikīkī and started cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Onshore, lifeguards continued CPR until Honolulu Emergency Medical Services arrived and took over with advanced life support. Honolulu EMS continued treatment and transported the patient in critical condition en route to an emergency.

Honolulu Ocean Safety rescued 32 swimmers and surfers today on the south shore, with a few dozen more assisted in from the swim event mentioned earlier. Honolulu Ocean Safety had multiple rescue units in the water on this holiday, including its rescue boat.
